The relationship between self-efficacy and job satisfaction of dental technicians

Abstract
Objectives.The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Job Satisfaction on Self-Efficacy of dental technicians and dental hygienists. We examined self-efficacy and job satisfaction of dental technicians and dental hygienists to determine methods for raising job satisfaction.

Methods.Subjects included dental technicians and dental hygienist in the metropolitan areas of the cities of Daegu and Gyeong-buk. Surveys were filled out by consenting dental technicians and dental hygienists. Statistical analysis was done using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 17.0 for Windows. We determined frequencies and percentage, calculating means, and standard deviations, and determining statistical significance using t-tests, analysis of variance, Pearson¡¯s correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis.

Results.Dental hygienists reported higher self-efficacy and job satisfaction than dental technicians. Dental technicians showed differences in self-efficacy associated with age, marital status, education, career, and monthly salary. Dental hygienists showed differences in self-efficacy associated with gender, age, education, career, and monthly salary. Differences in job satisfaction was also associated with general characteristics of the study population. Dental technicians showed job satisfaction levels associated with age, marital status, education, career, work hours, and monthly salary. Dental hygienists showed job satisfaction levels associated with age, marital status, education, career, work hours, and monthly salary.

Conclusions.Self-efficacy and job satisfaction are high among dental technicians and hygienists. The degree of job satisfaction is high because of a high sense of self-efficacy.
